Liam Box

Project type

hand made box

Date

2021

This keepsake box was made for a child named Liam.
When Liam was born, a tree had already fallen in the family’s yard. Rather than removing it and moving on, a section of that tree was saved. Rocky Shores Woodworks took that section and built this box from it, allowing the material from that moment to carry forward into something lasting.
The form was kept simple and functional. The intention was not to make a decorative object, but a place to hold meaningful things as they accumulate over time. Liam’s initial was hand painted onto the lid, marking the box as his without overworking the surface or distracting from the wood itself.
This piece does not try to explain its importance through design. Its value comes from where it began, what it was made from, and who it was made for.
Built once, from a specific place and moment, this box serves as a quiet way of carrying that beginning forward.
