Family Time

Project type

Art

Date

2023

This piece was created from a dining room table that had reached a turning point. As the family grew, the table it had gathered around for years was being replaced by a larger one. Rather than discarding it, the client chose to preserve what the table represented.
That table had been the center of daily life. It was where his boys were raised—where homework was done, meals were shared, conversations unfolded, lessons were taught, and responsibilities were handled. To him, the dining table was never just furniture; it was where family life happened in full.
The client’s home reflects that belief, filled with short, meaningful sayings meant to reinforce values rather than decorate walls. In reimagining the table, Rocky Shores Woodworks set out to create something that would carry its history forward while giving it a new purpose.
The reclaimed tabletop was transformed into a round, wall‑mounted clock centered around the words “Family Time.” The circular form reflects continuity and return, while the clock itself shifts the role of the piece—from supporting daily life physically to marking it symbolically. Time is measured not only in hours, but in presence.
Now mounted in the dining area, the piece remains where it belongs—within the space where the family continues to gather. What once supported meals now quietly watches over new conversations, carrying the marks of its past into the present.
This work is not about nostalgia. It is about honoring the life already lived at the table and allowing it to remain part of the home, not as furniture, but as a reminder of what time is best spent on.
