Sunrise Children's Services

Project type

Sunrise

Date

2024

This carving was donated to a children’s services home to support their fundraising efforts. From the beginning, the request was straightforward: create something simple—something representative—that could be used to help generate support for the work they do.
With that in mind, the piece was intentionally kept restrained. Rocky Shores Woodworks created a three‑sided, live‑edge rectangular form, allowing the natural shape and texture of the wood to remain central. The organization’s logo and established date were carved directly into the surface, anchoring the piece in identity rather than embellishment.
The goal was not to create spectacle, but to create something meaningful—an object that felt grounded, honest, and usable within the context it was intended for.
When the carving was presented, the response said more than words could. Seeing genuine appreciation and emotion reinforced the purpose behind the donation. The organization does important, often unseen work for children who need stability, care, and support—and they needed something distinctive they could rally around for their events.
This piece exists not as a centerpiece, but as a contribution. A reminder that craftsmanship can serve beyond collection or commission, and that sometimes the most meaningful work is created simply to support those doing good.
