Knucklehead

Project type

Art

This piece was created from passion alone.
I did not work from blueprints, schematics, or measured drawings. Instead, this sculpture was built from memory, observation, and deep respect for one of the most iconic engines ever produced—the 1940s Harley‑Davidson Knucklehead. Years of loving motorcycles, studying their forms, and understanding their presence informed every decision made while carving this engine.
The Knucklehead represents more than mechanical innovation. It represents freedom, individuality, and the unmistakable soul of American motorcycling. Its silhouette is instantly recognizable, even without technical precision, and that recognition comes from emotion as much as engineering. This work is an attempt to capture that feeling rather than replicate a machine.
The result is not a technical replica, but a tribute formed through intuition and memory, shaped by years of admiration for motorcycles and the culture surrounding them.
This sculpture exists at the crossroads of two lifelong passions: woodworking and motorcycling. It reflects the parallels between the two—patience, respect for tools, reliance on experience over instruction, and the satisfaction that comes from building something with your own hands simply because it needs to exist.
This piece was created to give back. A portion of the auction proceeds will be donated to Oleika Shrine, supporting the charitable work of the Shriners. In that spirit, this work is offered not only as an object, but as an expression of gratitude—for the craft, the machines, and the community that inspires them both.
