Intertwined bodies

Project type

Art

Date

2024

This piece was created for a husband and wife whose home is filled with drawings and paintings of intertwined skeletons. For them, the imagery is not dark or decorative—it is symbolic. The intertwined bodies represent togetherness, dependence, and the understanding that life is navigated side by side, not individually.
Rather than replicating an image already present in their collection, Rocky Shores Woodworks set out to create a piece that honored the meaning behind it. The carving focuses on movement and connection rather than anatomy, allowing the figures to remain abstracted and fluid. The bodies fold into one another, inseparable in form, emphasizing reliance without hierarchy.
Negative space plays an important role in the composition. The figures are defined not only by what is carved, but by what is intentionally left open—reflecting the balance between individuality and unity. The wood itself becomes part of the narrative, its grain guiding the flow and reinforcing the organic bond suggested by the imagery.
This work was designed to live among other collected pieces, while remaining distinctly its own. It does not illustrate a moment, but a condition—two lives permanently shaped by coexistence.
Built once and created specifically for this couple, the piece exists as a quiet affirmation that togetherness is not about symmetry or sameness, but about connection that holds—even when everything else is stripped away.
