One-off Commission Studio
Rocky Shores Woodworks specializes in one‑of‑a‑kind, story‑driven builds. Every piece is designed and built once, for one person or place. No duplicates. No catalogs. No shortcuts.
Each commission begins with a conversation — about story, space, and intention — and becomes a finished piece that exists nowhere else.

This carving was created for a mother whose presence was defined by love, warmth, and compassion. She initially reached out with an idea of what she thought she wanted—an image, a finished form—but the true direction of the work emerged through listening rather than instruction.
As time passed, and as I listened to her speak with others, a clearer understanding of her nature revealed itself. The carving took shape not from the first request, but from the way she offered care, attention, and steadiness without needing to name it.
The material itself carried its own story. The wood came from a broken live‑edge end table her husband had made years earlier. Though damaged, she said she didn’t have the heart to throw it away. Rather than discarding it, the table was repurposed—allowing something built with care in the past to remain part of her present.
The form was established to create balance and integrity, but the carving itself was developed gradually through hand work, responding to the grain, movement, and character of the wood. The process was guided by patience and observation, letting the material and story move together.
The result is a piece shaped by presence rather than precision—one that reflects how warmth often exists quietly, without announcement. It is not meant to explain itself at first glance, but to be understood over time, much like the person it was made for.
Created once, from listening and legacy, this work exists as a continuation rather than a replacement—honoring what was made before, and giving it new life through meaning rather than replication.
