3 Wisemen

This piece was created for a client who has long been drawn to the imagery and symbolism of the Three Wise Men. Throughout his home, that visual language appears in quiet, intentional ways—serving not as decoration, but as reflection. The goal of this work was not to restate a familiar image, but to reinterpret it as a singular object shaped by tradition, material, and restraint.
Rocky Shores Woodworks designed the piece around the journey itself. The figures are rendered in clean, linear forms, allowing negative space to play as important a role as the carving. Rather than relying on heavy detail, the work emphasizes movement and direction—three figures traveling together, guided forward by the star that leads them.
The carved figures are set against a dark field, creating contrast that draws the eye inward while allowing the surrounding wood to frame the image naturally. The carved frame incorporates repeating ornamental patterns, referencing historical craftsmanship while grounding the piece firmly as a contemporary, one‑of‑a‑kind work.
This piece invites pause rather than attention. It rewards closer viewing and leaves room for interpretation, allowing the meaning to deepen over time rather than declare itself immediately.
